Scottie Scheffler just turned the CJ Cup Byron Nelson into his personal highlight reel, torching TPC Craig Ranch with a 31-under-par 253 and tying the PGA Tour’s 72-hole scoring record. He won by eight strokes. He was up by 10 around the turn though. That’s not a golf tournament — that’s a curb stomp.

And yes, I called it. Posted that prediction on April 30. Not exactly a Nostradamus moment, but still.

The man opened with a 61, followed it with a 63, and coasted the weekend with a 66 and another 63. He even had a shot at breaking the all-time record outright, but a bogey on 17 and a missed eight-footer on 18 left him tied with Justin Thomas and Ludvig Åberg for that honor.

This win was extra sweet for Scheffler — his first of the season, and it came at his hometown event where he made his pro debut 11 years ago. He got choked up holding his baby son on the 18th green. As a dad of a 20 and 17, soak in while it lasts bubba.

Next up: the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, May 15-18, 2025. Scheffler’s never won that one. But if he brings this kind of heat, the rest of the field might as well pack it in.
