Last week, during the BMW (the Tour Championship’s 50 man field down to 30 man field), admittedly I spent a good deal of time watching the LIV individual championship. This weekend I was 100% dedicated to the FedEx Tour Championship at East Lake. But for the LIV’ers out there, here is my written word on LIV Indianopolis.
Scottie started the day lurking. Cue the theme to JAWS. Ooops, spoke too soon, he went hard left and OB’ed off the tee at 1, and then went H2O on 15 for a double. Still reeled in a T4 despite hitting left a lot today.
Tommy leading by 3 after 9 holes — and the $10MM question of course is will he blow it? He didn’t, obvs. Good for Tommy Lad dialing in his first ever PGA Tour victory and man did he earn it with a record 29 T10 or betters over the years on the Tour.
Cantaly dressed like a flight attendant , in no small part to the Delta Airlines logo’ed navy shirt – all navy shirt and pants, and wait for it, belt. The whole ensemble reeked of being a male Delta AIrlines flight attendant. But he’s in the mix not having won a PGA tournament in 3 years and looking to wedge his way on to next month’s Ryder Cup team (for USA). Solid T2 despite being put on the clock on 12 tee.
Keegan… for as endearing as Keeg’s insessent club twirling is before each shot, him doing aim-point from 6 feet is a bad look. Terrible look. But, we really really love him and want him to select himself as playing captain in next month’s Ryder Cup.
Ben Griffin and Chris Gotterup making Keegan take a good hard look at these two for next month’s Ryder Cup (as USA team virgins) with T10s.
And, Cam Young, despite wedging his golf glove up under his belt when he puts, but a strong show nonetheless at T4.
Keegan Bradley will announce his six captain’s picks—the final members of Team USA for the 2025 Ryder Cup—on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. That’s three days after the Tour Championship wraps up. His picks will complete the 12-man roster that already includes the six automatic qualifiers: Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English, and Bryson DeChambeau.
JT, Colin Morikawa, Patty Cantlay will definitely get Captain’s picks. My gut says Griffin, Sam Burns, and Cam Burns round out the team.
Damn, what I wouldn’t do to see Koepka, Patty Reed and Chris Gotterup get those 3 slots.
