Like many, I am frustrated by the bifurcated nature of golf. PGA Tour over here on the left, and LIV over here on the right. Very few would argue that having the talent split out into separate camps, or leagues, does not benefit the fan. It may benefit the players financially, but certainly not the fans. Not me.
Having said that though, I could envision a day when the leagues face off in a Ryder Cup style long weekend tournament. Now that would surely benefit the average fan. The ratings would be enormous and the “characters” of LIV – much like good old fashioned professional wrestling “heels” in the former WWF – would be tangibly fun to watch. Imagine Bryson and Brooks squaring off against Pat Cantlay and Xander. The mic’ed up content would be to die for.
In fact, if these two knucklehead leagues can’t come together on this they should both wither away. It’s time, put the ugly sports washing notion in the past and let’s move forward, for the fan.
