I’m going to try to summarize a point of view on the golf(ball) rollback initiative. To start at end, I think it’s an exercise in academic futility that makes me scratch my head to such an extent I may have caused bleeding.
Based on my cursory reading on the topic it sounds like the golf overlords want to handcuff golf ball manufacturers – and by extension PGA Pros and hacks like myself – such that swings speeds of 125 mph can jettison a ball up to, but not beyond, 317 yards (in a testing environment). I hate government over-reach, even if this particular rule won’t likely affect me. I don’t know what my top swing speed is, but its likely not 3 digits. Ya smell what I’m cooking? So, perhaps this point a view is just a to-do about nothing.
Anyway, given the little rules fiasco we witnessed this past weekend featuring Matt Fitzpatrick and Colin Morikawa, I for one am voting for less persnickety rules and more common sense and courtesy. Let them play.
Most of my balls look like these anyway…
