I am so very fearful that Tiger’s TGL will go the way of the Dodo Bird. Truthfully I haven’t read up on it much though. But I don’t love TopGolf myself so can’t imagine watching a version of it on TV. In fact, today I watched Rory try to throw two pitches at Boston’s famed Fenway Park – and, although I give the lad a lot of credit for standing up there, foot on the rubber, and really giving it a go, it just wasn’t that interesting to watch. And, I think I’ll be left with more or less that same feeling watching the TGL – which I will do because I’m 53 and basically and empty-nester. So, yeah, bring it. But back to the point… The LIV announced a version of a player portal, free agency, and team contracts.
It’ll be interesting to see what kind of spaghetti mess the LIV can make of the player transfer process. But from what I can tell it all starts at the end – the end of the season that is. I maybe have my numbers wrong, or maybe close, because I am trying my best not to plagiarize, but the top 25 finishers (or thereabouts) are “locked” in for next season with at least a one year extension on their team contract. The next 20 or so are more or less free agents. They can stay on their team if the team will have them but are free to negotiate around with other teams. The remainder, say 10 or so get relegated to a 4-day 3-round play in tournament, in which I am still unsure how many can re- elevate back up to LIV. And, then I suppose there are off-LIV free agents laying in wait to snap up those relegated spots?
That’s what I took away in sum. The rest sounded too confusing for my simple mind. I am still trying to really wrap my head around the team concept and the TV graphics. There I said it.
