The first Labor Day parade was held on September 5, 1882. One hundred and ten years later I graduated college – and that is neither here nor there. But the premise of the Labor Day movement and eventual holiday was an effort to unify union works and seek to reduce time spent working. Welcome to the 8 hour work day and 40 hour work week. Enough about that.

Getting a tee time on Labor Day is a chore for sure. Unless you have a pal at a “club” or a pal who joined a local municipality that grants 2 week ahead of time access to book tee time vs. the broader proletariat. My pal is in the latter camp. I suppose I am part of the golf proletariat of Denver, CO.

No matter, we have a late morning tee sheet commitment at Meadow Hills Golf Course in Aurora, Colorado, on Sunday and we can’t wait. Here is our Emergency 9 of need to do’s to finally break 80, probably in this order.

  1. Walk up to every green thinking I can shave 1 less putt per green
  2. Walk up to every tee imagining I can distance manage off the tee by not pussy-footing and not aping
  3. Walk up to every missed green thinking head down chipping
  4. Walk up to every fairway iron shot thinking be short not long
  5. Pull the pin like an adult male
  6. Order and eat a brat at the turn
  7. Tone down the drinking, especially the Transfusions
  8. Breathe. Take time on the tee
  9. Embrace Fit Golfer Girl stretches before round
